How to Measure and find the right size for
CHILDREN'S CLOTHING
IMPORTANT: order
by
size not age.
MEASURE EVERY TIME YOU ORDER... CHILDREN GROW FAST! Before you order, be
sure the item you want comes in the size you need:
if
item description lists sizes in numbers,
state the size in numbers when you order.
If
sizes are listed as "S, M, L" or "A, B, C,
D,"
state
the letter size, not the number size.
A. CHEST. Pass tape under armpits, over bot–
tom of shoulder blades at back, and covering
fullest part of chest at front. Child should
stand normally with arms at sides, wearing
simply-cut street clothes.

tape. For slacks, pants: measure as above, but
over shirt, with tape at height at which gar–
ment will be worn.
B. WAIST. For underwear, swimwear: meas–
ure at true waistline, over underwear. Hold
C. HIP AND SEAT. Measure around fullest
part of hips, with child wearing simply-cut
street clothes.
Boys' Clothing
Dress shirts, sport shirts, undershirts, paJames, vests,
sweatshirts, and sweaters-take chest measurement (see A
above). Then see chart (right). Order size corresponding
to chest measurement.
Sport
coats, suits, robes, all outerwear-take chest and
height measurements
(A
and
D
above). Then see chart
(right) and order size closest to these measurements.
Underwear shorts and other shorts (walking, boxer, swim),
take waist measurement (sec B above). Then see chart
(right) and order size closest to waist measurement.
To order all slacks and trousers, take waist and Inseam
measurements (see Band
E
above). Then see chart (right)
and order size corresponding to these measurements.

HEIGHT. Stand child against wall in stock–
ing feet. Place piece of stiff paper across head
to wall; measure from paper to floor.
E. INSEAM. Take a well-fitting comfortable
pair of pants and try them on the child, mak–
ing sure the waistband is kept at correct posi–
tion. Remove pants, lay them flat; fold back
one leg and measure carefully from crotch
seam junction to bottom of cuffs. This meas–
urement is finished inseam length.
