Authentic St. Catherine Cutter of beautiful
hand-finished. hand-shaped basswood
In
1890,
it took
18
days to make a sleigh like this. Today, skilled Canadian
sleigh-makers still take
18
days to make one.
18
days of the most careful
and painstaking hand labor.
18
days to slowly steam and shape each indi–
vidual piece of basswood to form the body and steel-edged runners .. to
hand-forge the metal trim and undercarriage . . to hand-upholster the seat
in plush velour . . to apply 9 finishing coats of lacquer and enamel. When
done, they have built more than just a fine quality sleigh. They have created
this unique and beautiful example of the true craftsman's skill .. a work
of art of understandably limited supply. As an outdoor ornamentation,
it would enhance the beauty of any home from Miami to Alaska. About
39 inches wide,
180
inches long with hitching shafts attached.
