How to wash a"d dry it
Today's many new man-made fibers, and fiber blends make it im–
portant for you to know exactly how each fabric should be washed
and dried. You'll find washing and drying instructions for nearly all
fabric merchandise in Penney catalogs at the end of each catalog
item description. The words in these descriptions are (with some
exceptions and variations) identical to those you'll find in the
JCPenney Home Laundry Reference Chart ... and also on JCPen–
ney Permanent Laundering Labels (attached to our fabric mer–
chandise). By reading the merchandise description, you'll know
before you buy
just what kind of care each item needs.
THE HOME LAUNDRY REFERENCE CHART
(left) was developed
by theJCPenney MerchandiseTesting Center to
~impiifyyour
wash–
day work. It tells you the 5 basic methods that give best cleaning
results on most fabric merchandise. In the left-hand column are
wash-and-dry instructions-related to those in our catalog mer–
chandise descriptions and also to the JCPenney Laundering
Labels (attached to our fabric merchandise). In the middle of the
chart are washing conditions that should be used. In the right-hand
column are dryer settings.

termined by the fiber that is combined with the Spandex. Follow

FIBER BLENDS

scribed above. Please follow care instructions in the item descrip–
tion. plus any special instructions attaqhed to the item. If you have
questions about proper care of anything you buy from Penneys,
please write to our Customer Service Dept. at one of the addresses

"NO-IRON" MEANS "PERMANENT PRESS"
When it's "no-iron," it's easy care! "No-iron" Is the term we
use to describe fabric items that with a "built-in" smooth, wrinkle–
free look. Just machine wash and tumble dry. (If you prefer not
to tumble dry, a little touch-up ironing may be needed.)
To be sure the entire item will give really satisfactory no-iron
performance, Penneys Merchandise Testing Center checks every
detail-seams, sewing thread, linings, zippers, even buttons. And
you can be confident that the no-iron feature will fast for the life
of the garment.
FLAME-RESISTANT
Federal law requires that all children's sleepwear (sizes Oto 14) be flame–
resistant. In addition, we offer many other garments, for children and
adults, made with fabric and trim which pass the flame-resistance test of
U.S. Flammability Standard No. FFS-74. This is not a legal requirement,
but it is a " plus" feature that we think you may find reassuring.
Flame-resistant fabrics have these important qualities:
• They're
more resistant
to catching fire ttian ordinary fabric.
• Flame spreads
more slowly
when the source of fire is still in contact.
• Flame is either
self-extinguishing
or
easy to extinguish
by brushing,
slapping, or smothering it away.
The 100% polyester and 100% nylon fabrics that our catalog describes as
flame-resistant have a characteristic that contributes to their flame–
resistance-when exposed to flame, the fabric shrinks away from the
source of heat.
If
it is thus withdrawn entirely from the flame, there is little
danger that it will ignite.
Of course, flame-resistant fabrics are not fireproof, and they do not protect
their wearer from intense heat. But they do a lot that ordinary fabrics don't
do-and that can add greatly to your peace of mind.
For a complete collection of flame-resistant fabric merchandise, see the
special listing in the index of our big Fall '76 Catalog.
