For refunds, exchanges, or damage in transit–
also for adjustments under warranties
When you return merchandise, we make an appropriate

part of your Invoice, to be filled out in case you need to return a purchase.
{If form has been mislaid, ask us for one in a letter mailed to one of the
addresses given below.)

damaged, fill out "Return or Exchange Form" and send it to us in the

get an Inspection Report from the driver and have him take the package
back. {If you discover the damage after the delivery driver has gone,
notify the transportation company; they will come for the package and
give you the Inspection Report.) Send us the Inspection Report, the paid
transportation bill {if any), and a copy of your invoice, including the

Shop by Phone
...
It's Fast and Easy!
Wherever you may
be,
if there's a phone within reach, you
can save "shopping time" by ordering the easy telephone
way. It's really such a simple matter to call your nearest Penney
Catalog Center. Or if you prefer, drop by and place your order
in person.
H's easy to shop by phone, but you can make it even easier
by writing down the catalog numbers. sizes. colors, etc.. of
your order before you call. Also, please keep your Penney
Charge Account Number at hand (if you have one), because
it helps us process your order quickly.
We have over 1400 catalog Centers located across the
country-all ready to take your order. Just look in your local
telephone directory tor the phone number of our Catalog
Department. If we have a Catalog Center in your area, you
will find it listed under "Penney, J. C. Co., Inc." If
you
find no
listing, write to our Customer Service Department, page 338. If
the distance is too far for catalog pickup, and you have a
Penney Charge Account, you can save time by phoning in your
order and asking to have it sent to your home. Or
you
may
-choose to mail your order to the JCPenney Distribution Center
that services- your area. We regret that California, Nevada,
Oregon, Rhode Island, Washington, and Hawaii do not have
JCPenney Catalog Departments at this time. But we will be
happy to serve you through catalog mail order. There is an Or–
der Form on page 339, and another one attached to a return en–
velope inserted in this catalog. Page 338 tells you "Where to
Mail Your Order" if you are not using the envelope provided.
Penney Catalog Centers are in easy-to-reach locations with
shopping hours designed for your convenience. This means
you
can pick up your order easily, and
you
won't have to hang
around the house waiting for a deliveryman to arrive!
Prompt and Courteous Service can always be expected–
whether
you
order by phone or in person. If you need any in–
formation about ordering. we'll
try
to be helpful. For instance,
you may want to apply fOr a Penney Charge Account-so con–
venient to use for Regular ·charge and Time Payment pur–
chases. If you need some facts about sizes before placing your
order, just ask us and we will do our best to give you the cor–
rect information.
About Transportation
and Handling
...
A charge covering both transportation and handling is made
on orders delivered directly to our Catalog Centers. "Handling"
includes a lot of
extra
service that you don't get when you
order by mail:
• Our high-speed communication systems transmit your order
to the Distribution Center for the next day's work-1 to 6 days
faster than if you mailed it!
• Your order Is processed the next morning because it has
arrived ahead of the day's mail-more time saved for you!
• Our dally truck dellverles to each Catalog Department are
much faster than parcel post or other methods of delivery to
your home-still more time saved!
• Our on-hanger delivery of many kinds of clothing means that
they reach you smooth and ready to wear-saves you tiresome
ironing and pressing!
When your total order Is lightweight and mailable, our com–
bined transportation-and-handling charge may sometimes be
more than the charge for sending your mailable order to your
home. So, it might be to your advantage to have it sent to your
home if you aren't in a hurry to get your order. However,
if
the
order is
not mailable,
our combined charge is
usually
lower
than the shipping charge alone would be if you had the mer–
chandise delivered directly to your home-read more about
saving on shipping charges in the panel below.
SAVE ON
SHIPPING
The transportation-and-handling charge for "not–
mailable" merchandise is usually less when your
order is sent to a Catalog Center instead of your
home. Even if you arrange for trucking from the
Catalog Center to your home, the combined charges
will usually be lower than if you had the item shipped
from our warehouse directly to your home. See p. 338
for information about Taxes.
