because of the nature of the merchandise.

These are described as "Shipped by freight or

express." In such cases, refer to freight and ex–

press information below and specify freight or express shipment on

your order.

Figure postage on total weight of order

The shipping weight of each article is given in the catalog description.

When you write your order show the shipping weight of each article

ordered, in pounds and ounces, in the last two columns on the right side

of the order blank. Add the pounds and ounces and change ounces into

full pounds

(16

ounces to a pound). Then show the total weight in

pounds. Consult the parcel post rate table at right for the correct

amount to include in your remittance for postage.

For example:

if

your order adds up to

25

pounds and you live in Zone

3,

the postage on your order would be

59

cents.

When figuring postage on packages weighing more than one pound,

always remember that the post office counts a fraction of a pound as a

full pound and charges postage accordingly. For example, if the total

weight of your order

is

24

pounds and

1

ounce, the postoffice charges

the parcel post rate for

25

full pounds. Therefore, you could include

additional articles weighing 15 ounces without having to pay one cent

more for postage. It means extra savings for you when you build up

your order to even pounds.

If

you don't know your parcel post zone refer to table at right or ask

your mail can:-ier.

Send enough money for postage

Include enough money in the remittance with your order to pay the

postage as we must pay postage on parcel post packages before we can

send your merchandise. Don't worry about sending more than the cor–

rect amount-if you send us too much, every cent extra will be promptly

returned to you. You pay only the exact postage needed for your order.

How to Estimate Freight Charges to your Station

Freight is the best and most economical way to ship heavy, bulky merchandise.

Use the rate table below to estimate freight charges. Or ask your station agent,

or write us giving catalog numbers of items on which you want to know actual

freight charges. The minimum charge for any rail freight shipment is the rate for

100 lbs., but it is never Jess than $1.00. Charges for shipments over 100 pounds

are figured on actual weight. On freight orders of 100 pounds or less, made up of

several articles taking different rates, the highest rate applies to entire shipment.

If

there is a freight agent at your station, you pay freight charges when shipment

is received.

If

there is no freight agent, include additional money with your order

to cover freight charges.

If

you send too much, we will return the difference to you.

Factory and Warehouse Shipments. Articles described in the catalog as shipped

from one of our convenient factories or warehouses may be included on the same

order blank with goods shipped from our Mail Order house, but they will be

sent as separate shipments with separate shipping charges.

Direct-to-home freight delivery. Many railroads offer direct-to-home truck deliv–

ery service on rail freight shipments-usually only within city or village limits.

Ordinarily there is no extra charge except where the freight rate is very low-then

a slight extra charge is made by the railroad to cover the cost of delivering the

merchan_dise. Such deliveries are usually made to first floor or sidewalk.

Ask your freight agent or write us about this service-we are always glad to give

you information about the shipment of your orders.

Truck shipments.

If

your town is a regular stopping point on a Motor Carrier route,

consult their local representative to be sure trucks of that line can make proper

connections with shipping points given in the catalog description. Then mark an

"X" in the space provided on the order blank and specify name of trucking com–

pany serving your town and give your complete street address. Truck rates are

slightly higher than railroad rates.

Estimated Rail Freight Rates per 100

Pound~

Freight rates are based on distance. Therefore, the rates below can be used to estimate freight charges from MINNEAPOLIS

or any of our factories or warehouses.

For example,

if you live about 200 miles from Minneapolis and order furniture items weigh–

ing 125 pounds, multiply 125 pounds (1

U

times the 100-pound rate) by Sl.21 (the 100-pound rate for furniture items). 1Ux

$1.21 is $1.51. Add 3% (Sc) Federal Tax. Total estimated freight rate is $1.56. The actual freight charge may vary slightly.
